Origin Story

Ma'halla Lunae's story began as an child abandoned in the care of an Orphanage; the very same who would took care of the young male Viera until he came of age to venture on his own. His lineage, kind, were rare among the other displaced children that filled the halls of the facility he would come to call home. It was that very unique distinction that attributed to teasing, animosity, among a young Ma'halla and the other's around him. He was no stranger to the beatings of older kids causing the bunny boy to quickly adapt to fighting in brawls with others. Among the other children he was an anomaly, a freak, and unusual among the Mi'qote, Au'ra, and other races that were in more abundance. However, he managed to find a connection with his closest friend and confidant Sidare.

As Ma'halla reached his thirteenth name day he found himself able to properly defend himself challenging the hierarchy of sorts among the other children; no longer the helpless punching bag that could take a punch. With his powerful hind legs he could deliver powerful kicks and jumps into the sky allowing more devastating assaults. Often times finding himself at odds with the orphanage, despite having defended himself, because the extent of the damage he could inflict on the others. Some of the more troubled adolescents saw to use this as an advantage as they'd deliberately attack Sidare as a way to provoke Ma'halla. Sidare was the closest thing to a family he had; she and a few of the other closely knit orphans gave themselves the surname "Lunae" connecting them as a family. In the years to come Sidare would come into her own, perfectly capable without the need of protection, garnering the respect of the other's of the home. She invited a reluctant Ma'halla into her created family and namesake.

On Ma'halla's eighteenth name day the owner of the Orphanage called him into his office so the two could discuss what path the young Viera would take. Taking from an old dusty box he retrieved a letter of sorts aged with time written in a foreign language; after years of attempting to translate the Viera native tongue he managed to translate some of what was written with the helps of scholars. In this time the ink had come to fade, dim, making whatever answers that were kept here a never ending mystery of the boy's origins. However, the older man that ran the facility told him the origin of young Ma'halla's name. On his educational voyage of sorts he had learned of Viera tradition in which name's derived from; although, the man did not wish to spite the heritage by naming the boy after the city they lived, he took letters of known Viera settlements or towns and made an amalgamation of the first letters of some of the towns. Muscadet, Atoel, Hyskaris, Arda, and Lesrekta were five such cities the viera people were rumored to occupy; also the most likely one of these could be the home of the abandoned child. Coordinates, destinations, and places where answers may be found to help Ma'halla's journey of finding answers if he still wished them to be found.

Now with a purpose Ma'halla left his home leaving behind Sidare and the other's. He could not expect to keep using up the limited resources the orphanage had when more and more children appeared at the dawn of the Seventh Umbral Calamaity. In this time the Viera traveled to the woodland and outskirts of Gridania looking for clues or remnants of people like him with no success. What he found was a battlefield littered with the dead, fallen blades, and the after math of a war paved with blood. At this time Ma'halla assisted in the reconstruction attempts to restore Gridania while further developing his skills in pole-arms. The young Viera took much delight in training with and along side the likes of Swethyna and Ywain who were masters in their own right as Lancers. However, unlike the other Lancer's the male viera found himself instinctively using his hind legs to perform jump like assaults with his pole-arm. This sparked a conversation with some of his peers as they spoke of rumored "Dragoons" of Ishgard that masterfully used similar tactics. Although, that path was long and Ishgard had long since closed itself off from the world.

Be it because intimidation, bigotry, or even envy other's of the Lancer Guild encouraged a young Ma'halla to take on this long gruesome journey. Most believed it a way to further humiliate him or as cruel as thinking he'd die on this path. His peers like Ywain and Swethyna encouraged him to stay, but the Viera's pride and a "Calling" would not have him swayed. Traveling light with the essentials and his lance he traveled towards Ishgard. The weather was harsh, violent, cruel, and unforgiving; however, the stubborn Viera fought this battle alone and resisted. Although, in a blanket of snow Ma'halla found himself accompanied with as he seemingly collapsed to be found by a then younger Alberic. Alberic and his pupil Estinien found the out of place Viera and brought him to warmth. "When we found you, we were certain you were gone for. You must have Halone's blessing to have survived this long; if we had come a second later I fear what may have come of you," Alberic muttered to Ma'halla. After a nights rest, a campfire, the three were to part ways before the Dragoon mentor asked this stranger about his pole-arm. Intrigued by Ma'halla's story Alberic gives a visual demonstration of "jump" giving much clarity and insight to the Viera to better hone his own skill. The three part ways later on with Alberic telling his new companion to seek him out in Ishgard once he arrived.

Upon arrival at the gates of Ishgard Ma'halla was immediately met with resistance and denied entry. Even at the mere mentioning of Alberic this was not enough to sway the guards in their decision; instead, they insisted the "wild animal" must have just heard the name in passing. Consequently among them was a passing Knight Dragoon who verbally mocked the Viera calling him weak, incompetent, and he wouldn't survive the training. The Dragonsong War waged on still and more and more promising candidates perished in the face of the incredible threats of Nidhog's kin. If nothing else the bunny boy could be reasonable distraction like bait to lure in an unsuspecting dragons; so he was allowed temporary entry into the city of Ishgard. Thinking this was the moment to prove himself Ma'halla willingly entrusted his safety to the Dragoon and the commands of others. After a nights rest, a warm meal, a squadron of the Knights ventured out from the capital. It was here where the young viera was ordered to wait at a location, extremely hostile unbeknownst to him, so the other's could venture on ahead and scout the area.

Later Ma'halla felt the flames of a dragon, the sound of wings that mimic his heart beat, as one of these Wyrms attacked him; using what strength he had he fended off the beast, but notably struggling against it because he was not adequately prepared to fight this threat. Meanwhile the Dragoon Knights stumbled on the scene reluctant to aide a hand going as far as mocking the struggling fighter. Reminding him this was the difference between them and him, he could never reach their caliber, and because of his arrogance he would die. Before meeting his end Alberic and Estinien arrived saving Ma'halla. The two would later patronize and demean their fellow Knights of the Dragoon, Estinien in particular taking it hardest but why Ma'halla would never know. Perhaps it was pity, perhaps it was potential Alberic saw in the Viera for holding his own, or maybe out of spite to his comrades he offered to train Ma'halla then and there. However, the wounded pride of the Viera as well as the growing hatred he felt for people in general, he promptly declined the offer saying he had no use of their teachings. He would find his own path, one without their help, as he had always done before.
